Monitoring outage during /24 migration (not a DC outage)
2026-06-11 18:38:00

Our external uptime probe reported RO-DC1-NXD2 as unreachable for a period of 8 days in June 2026. The location did not experience any downtime during this time.

During our planned migration from a temporary /27 subnet to our own /24 subnet, the edge switch’s monitored IP was decommissioned along with the old /27.

Our external Zabbix check continued pinging the old address, which no longer routed anywhere, and logged the target as down until we repointed the check at the new address.

Single external probe, single vantage point. Our monitoring pings the edge switch from one external location (a Zabbix instance on a third-party network).

  • Added “update monitoring targets” as a required step in every migration/renumber runbook — this specific incident was preventable at zero cost.
  • Adding a second external probe on an independent network so a single failed check can’t read as a full outage.
  • Migrating to our own ASN (registered, pending upstream upgrade) and publishing a BGP looking glass for externally observable network state.

Infrastructure Update: POP Online

Following the physical and network integration of our newest POP, the initial deployment phase has concluded.

While the provisioning process caused some temporary fluctuations in connectivity, all systems are now green.

Status: Fully Operational
